Maxed Dragon Soul

Reasons –
Level 1 Magic Missile as it is your only attack skill. Max Dragon Soul first as it adds attack and also defense while Magic Missile only adds attack.

Tweaks that can be made:

If you want more damage, go for this build. You would at least want a SP into Dragon Soul though as it increase your attack speed.

End Results –
Maxed Fire Circle
Maxed Teleport

Reasons –
Fire Circle is very useful since it is a mobbing skill, hence it recommended to max it first. Level 1 Teleport is for better mobility since Evan has many Quests to do.

Tweaks that can be made:
Mobility Build – Max Teleport first

Adopt this build if you want lower MP usage from spamming Teleport. I would recommend you max Fire Circle first though.

Fire Circle first – Forgo the 1 SP added to Teleport at Level 20
Self-explanatory I guess…

Maxed Magic Guard

Reasons –
Level 1 Lightning Bolt as it hits more monsters than Fire Circle. (though still lower damage) Max Magic Guard first to increase Evan’s survivability.

Tweaks that can be made:

Adopt this build if you think you are able to do without Magic Guard. Personally I think Fire Circle is reasonably good.

End Results –
Maxed Critical Magic

Reasons –
Level 1 Magic Booster as it doubles your attack speed at level 1 and last for a decent amount of time. Max Dragon Thrust first as it is a mobbing skill that can replaces Magic Flare. Max Critical Magic next for higher critical rate. Then, max Dragon Blink next as it is too unpredictable. Finally, max Magic Booster to increase the duration.

Tweaks that can be made:
Critical Magic first – Max Critical Magic before Dragon Thrust

Adopt this build if you want more critical and would like to continue using Magic Flare for awhile longer.

Suggested Skill Builds

Balanced Build
Level 100 : 1 Earthquake; 1 Recovery Aura; 1 Teleport Mastery; 2 Dragon Fury
Level 101 : 3 Dragon Fury (Maxed)
Level 102 : 3 Earthquake
Level 103 : 3 Earthquake
Level 104 : 3 Earthquake
Level 105 : 3 Earthquake
Level 106 : 3 Earthquake
Level 107 : 3 Earthquake
Level 108 : 1 Earthquake (Maxed); 2 Teleport Mastery
Level 109 : 3 Teleport Mastery
Level 110 : 3 Teleport Mastery
Level 111 : 1 Teleport Mastery (Maxed); 2 Phantom Imprint
Level 112 : 3 Phantom Imprint
Level 113 : 3 Phantom Imprint
Level 114 : 2 Phantom Imprint (Maxed); 1 Recovery Aura
Level 115 : 3 Recovery Aura (Maxed)
Level 116 : 3 Onyx Shroud
Level 117 : 3 Onyx Shroud
Level 118 : 3 Onyx Shroud
Level 119 : 3 Onyx Shroud
Level 120 : 3 Onyx Shroud (Maxed)

End Results –
Maxed Dragon Fury
Maxed Earthquake
Maxed Phantom Imprint
Maxed Recovery Aura
Maxed Onyx Shroud
Maxed Teleport Mastery

Reasons –
Level 1 Earthquake for mobbing purposes as it has a decent amount of range. Level 1 Recovery Aura can help you to save some MP when you are spamming skills. Level 1 Teleport Mastery for additional damage when u teleport. Max Dragon Fury first for higher damage. Max Earthquake next as it is your main training skill followed by Phantom Imprint for additional damage for single target i.e bosses. Onyx Shroud is maxed last as I think it is not as much use as the others as avoidability does not matter much after BB.

Tweaks that can be made –
Attack Build (1) – Max Earthquake first before anything

A plausible build for training, but I would suggest that you max Dragon Fury first as it only takes 5 SP to max it as compared to Earthquake. Furthermore, 5 SP in Earthquake only raise it damage by 30% while Dragon Fury give 35% Magic Attack

Attack Build (2) – Max Teleport Mastery first before Earthquake
You may want to consider this build if you prefer spamming Teleport around monsters. Though spamming Earthquake in small maps will be much more efficient.

More Party Specialized – Max Phantom Imprint last
Self-explanatory I guess…Phantom Imprint is not of much use. so it doesn’t really matter. (unless you boss often)

Suggested Skill Builds

I will not provide a detailed skill build, I will only a simple skill build guide because not everybody get the mastery books and/or skillbooks at the same rate/order.

Simple Build –
Level 120 : 1 Illusion; 1 Flame Wheel*; 1 Magic Mastery*

*If you have the respective skillbooks available.
Highest Priority to lowest of skills to max:
Magic Mastery – Stable Damage
Illusion – Main Bossing Skill
Flame Wheel – Main Training Skill
Maple Warrior – Self-explanatory
Hero’s Will – No Explanation need here

Reasons –
Level 1 Illusion as your main single target skill. Level 1 Magic Mastery as it gives an additional 6% mastery.

Tweaks that can be made:
Specialization – Choice between training and bossing

If you are only planning to go bossing, then max Illusion first.
If you are planning to train first, then max Flame Wheel first.
If you can’t decide or want to juggle between bossing and training (Hybrid), then max both of them at the same pace.

Flame Wheel’s damage will only outdamage Earthquake at Level 4. Also, you will need to go on Zakum runs to get skillbooks. You may require a strong single target skill if you are attacking. (i.e not on runs where you simply loot)

Attack Build – Max Magic Mastery later
You may want to consider this build, though your damage will not be as stable.

Suggested Skill Builds

I will not provide a detailed skill build, I will only a simple skill build guide because not everybody get the mastery books and/or skillbooks at the same rate/order.

Simple Build –
Level 120 : 1 Blessing of the Onyx; 1 Onyx Will; 1 Soul Stone*; 1 Dark Fog*

*If you have the respective skillbooks available.
Highest Priority to lowest of skills to max:
Onyx Will – Better Survivability and Knock-back Resist
Blaze – Higher Damage Output
Blessing of the Onyx – Higher Damage and longer duration
Soul Stone – Longer Duration and targets
Dark Fog – Most useless skill as it is not spammble

Reasons –
Level 1 Blessing of the Onyx for high starter magic attack. (subsequently it only gives 1 Magic Attack per level) Level 1 Onyx Will for high starter effects. Level 1 Soul Stone for emergency uses in bosses. Level 1 Dark Fog for fun purposes since it is your ultimate.

Tweaks that can be made:
Attack Build (1) – Max Blessing of the Onyx earlier

Blessing of the Onyx only gives an additional 1 Magic Attack each level after level 1. Hence, it is not efficient to max it first.

Attack Build (2) – Max Blaze first
A possible build. However, do take note that Blaze will only outdamage Flame Wheel at level 19.

Suggested Training Areas

Note 1: The suggested training areas should only be used as a reference. You should adjust it according to your own attack range and preferences.
Note 2: This section is built based on Korean Data. As such, World Tour Areas are not included and there might also be slight differences in the data from version to version.

Training

Level 10-15: Blue Ribbon Pig at Nautilus
Level 15-22: (Angry) Starfish at Nautilus
Level 17-20: Golem at Henesys Golem Temple
Level 21-25: Jellyfish at Nautilus
Level 20-28: Mixed Golem at its Mini-Dungeon
Level 25-30: Ice Golem & Flame Golem at Henesys Golem Temple
Level 30-55: Mushroom Castle and/or Kerning Square Quests/Training
CDs OR Mannequins at Kerning Square are good till 55. (50 for Mannequins)

Level 33-50: Solo King Pepe at Mushroom Castle
Gives good EXP till 45. After 45, it starts to get slower though.

Level 40-53: Training at Sleepywood Dungeon
Copper Drake/Drake/Red Drake – Good at 40-45
Wild Cargo/Tauromacis/Taurospear – Good at 45-53

Level 45-50: Jr. Celion and/or Jr. Lioner at Orbis
They are weak to Ice.

Level 50-70: Chryse Quest and/or Training
There is a spammable quest after you complete the whole Chryse Quest-line. It gives pretty decent EXP till 65.

Level 50-57: Celion and/or Lioner at Orbis
Level 58-63: Brown Teddy/Pink Teddy/Panda Teddy at Ludibrium
Level 62-70: Toy Trojans at Ludibrium
Level 63-75: Robo and/or Master Robo at Ludibrium Toy Factory
Level 70-80: Zeta Gray/Plateon/Mecateon at Omega Sector
Zeta Gray and Mecateon drops Angelic Bless Ring Recipe.

Level 70-78: Sand Rats and/or Scorpions at Magatia
I would suggest Sahel 2 map due to higher spawn rate.

Level 70-87: Triple Rumo at Magatia
Triple Rumo drops Angelic Bless Ring Recipe. The map is also flat with good spawn rate.

Level 72-83: Iron Mutae at Magatia
Flat map with good spawn rate.

Level 82-90: Roid and/or Neo Huroid at Magatia
Level 87-92: Homun at Magatia
Level 88-94: Saitie at Magatia
Level 93-98/100: Homunculus at Magatia
Level 95-110: Kru and Captain at Herb Town
Level 105-120: Dual Ghost Pirate at Ludibrium Clock Tower
Awesome spawn rate. Enough said.

Level 110-125: Master Death Teddy at Ludibrium Clock Tower
They drops Angelic Bless Ring recipe which is highly valued. However, it is usually hard to find maps here.

Level 115-120: Spirit Viking at Ludibrium Clock Tower
Level 120-125: Gigantic Spirit Viking at Ludibrium Clock Tower
Level 120-130: Past Leafre
Monsters here range from level 123-127. They have some good flat maps here as well. However, you would need to complete the Cross Hunter Quests to gain access to this area. Also, monsters here have higher defense rate than the other monsters of this level range despite having the same stats.

Level 120 onwards: Bossing
Daily Papulutus, Zakum runs etc. Zakum Arms Training is also pretty decent. (Up to 14x) You can go for Zakum Arms Training starting from 110 if you are able to deal sufficient damage.

Level 120-140: Blue Dragon Turtle, Red Dragon Turtle, Rexton, Green Cornian, Brexton, Dark Cornian, Dark Wyvern, Transforming Jr. Newtie & Jr. Newtie’s Mini Dungeon in Leafre
Entrance to Dragon Forest – Good at 120-125
Dragon Forest II – Good at 124-130
Dragon Forest III – Good at 130-136
Entrance to Dragon Nest – Good at 135-138
Newt Secured Zone – Good at 137-140

Level 138 onwards: Time Temple and Future Ereve

Others

Evan Quests: You should be doing the quests to get SP while training. Also, they are required to be completed to gain Union’s Will at Level 75.
Cross-Hunter Quests: Quest-line start at level 45. You have to do them to get Inherited Will.

You should also consider the following as they give very good EXP.
Monster Park: 60-95; 135-165; 160 and above
Party Quests: 50 and above

The following are optional as the item rewards are pretty good and gives decent Quest EXP, however, the map/monsters EXP are not that good.
Elin Forest Theme Quests: Medal and Ring
Von Leon Castle Theme Quests: Job Mystery Mastery Book and Medal
Neo City Theme Quests: Cap and Special Mystery Mastery Book

Although tedious, it is recommended that you do the Von Leon Castle and Neo City Quests though as they give Mastery Book.

Q & A for Evan

Character Development/Creation –
Q : How to create Evan?

A : The Usual Method, just that you need to click the Evan Pic (The Pic can be found at the top of the post)

Q : I would like to change class to Evan, can I?

A : Of course not.

Q : So….just what is so unique about Evan? Does Evan use Combo Too?

A : Evan has 2 unique features. 1st is that Evan command its dragon to attack instead of attacking himself while the other is that Evan do not have need to have job advancement because it is automatically advanced upon reaching the level. Evan does not use Combo, Combo is meant to be a unique thing for Aran.

Q : Since Evan does not have Max MP Increase, won’t Evan’s MP be low?

A : No. Evan’s MP is not low because at every increment of growth, Evan’s MP will be increased significantly.

Q : What about Evan’s HP? Will it be as low as a Magician?

A : It will be relatively low compared to other classes. However, Evan has higher HP than the regular Magician.

Skills Related –
Q : Will Evan have Bless of Fairy/Empress Blessing?

A : Yes. It is the same formula.

Q : Is it true that Evan will have more SP than Aran or KoC or Adventurers?

A : Yes. This is because Evan gain additional SP from quest.

Q : Can I save my SP gained from 1 Growth for another Growth?

A : No. Anyway, Evan is able to max all skills in the mastery.

Q : Does Dragon Spark works with every skill?

  1. when will evan come to maplesea cannot wait anymore >.<

    • Uhh, for gms, nexon released a video, saying it’ll come “Summer? No. Winter? No. sooner than you’d expect in SPRING 2010”
XD that means that between now and June, it will come out…

and yes, dark fog looks awesome. This blog makes me want to abandon my bandit and fund all my money towards evan.

    • And also, i think for maplesea, didnt’ they say it would come out some time in the summer? Not sure tho ._.

      • well, they say they will release it around in May-June
that time is always MSEA/AsiaSoft favourite time to release tons or major contents

and GMS is getting it in March 2010, that is very fast
I thought that Evan will need at least half a month to reach to other servers and MSEA will most likely be the 1st one to get it……
looks like I am totally wrong now

  2. Wow, nice work done!

now i am really looking forward to the release of evan in msea!

  3. OMG! I LOVE Dark Fog animation!!!!!

    thank you for sharing!:D

  4. ty for the info 😀
the skills build will defenetly help me tyyyyyyyyyyyyy

  5. Thx for the info , kinda perfect ^^

  6. Can someone tell, when Evans come in MapleStory Europe?

  7. Okay i like this build 🙂
    But I see an error

Don’t care what kind of mage you are or anything
    LUKLESS IS THE BEST BUILD

On this guide it says to make a lukless if u fit this:(Only Recommended if you have good equips or is rich or at low levels)
    WRONG!
    Lukless is cheaper and stronger.

Think about it… LUK does nothing. Let us wear more clothes… and lose less EXP. Mages hardly die, we kill before the monsters get to touch our HP.
for the clothes do the math with the LUK on the mage and then add all the INT. You will see that LUKless is better since you are stronger. 1INT = 1M.Atk. The more INT the stronger you are.

I recommended anyone making a Evan be LUKless.

    • But luck is also useful for us as we aim better to hit the monster. Whats the use for powerful attacks when we keep missing the monster?

      • he probably is referring to pre-BB where there is no magic accuracy

and yes, Pure INT builds are no longer recommended after big bang

  8. Meh, neato, but pretty similar to Spadow’s.

  9. Some rumors have been false. One said that for GMS, it’ll be out on March 23rd, but it’s the 24th and nothing. I’m guessing it’ll be out like March 30th when the Perfect Pitch event ends.

  10. OMG!!! i can’t wait till it comes out in GMS!!!

  11. I think you missed out on Soul Stone 30 Master book drop.
Which mob drop this mastery book 30?

  12. My names on maple are AskForHealz,AirArchers,ShootingYouz,YesABeginner and TrueNorthCA .

I feel bad for Maple Sea rs. In GMS Evans come out in two days! I can’t wait.

  13. Correct me if im wrong but your using the points you get at 20 in 10-> skills aswell as gettign another 3 from nowhere in 20->30 skills. You are pulling 3 extra skill points out of nowhere every 10 levels… max SP per 10 levels is 37 from 10->20 meaning 1 skill will not be maxed.

    • I remember quite clearly that Evan will get 3 SP by default when advanced to a next mastery when i play tried Evan in KMS

though i am not that sure for higher mastery
perhaps those who have tried it in GMS/KMS can clarify this

i have noticed something weird in GMS latest update for Evan in Fiel’s Extractions, how come there is mastery book for Magic Guard, Magic Booster & Critical Magic?!?!?! Further more it is cash?!?!
can anyone in GMS clarify this?
      http://www.southperry.net/showthread.php?t=25490&prefixid=GMS

  14. YAh there is a mastey book system for magic gaurd, magic booster, and Critical magic, and you can buy it from the cash shop, but there are monsters that drop them im not sure witch ones even tho i have asked around kno one knos yet lol.

  15. I don’t know if i’m wrong, but I feel like Evan requires less exp per lvl than other classes. Anyone can confirm it??

  16. Good guide^^..many people can need this

  17. I need help from those people who have played Evan in KMS/GMS

the SP given upon reaching the next mastery are as follows:
    1st Mastery – 5th Mastery : 3 Bonus SP
    6th Mastery – 9th Mastery : 5 Bonus SP
    10th Mastery : 3 Bonus SP???

can anyone confirm the above and correct them if possible?

  18. Hey i have a problem. When u lvl ur evan 2 lvl 40,it gets 3 sp,but so far on my lvl 39 evan,it has lvl 20 Chain Lightning and lvl 18 Magic Guard but its supposed to have 20 Ching Lightning and lvl 18 Magic Guard according to thie guide So when i lvl to lvl 40 i, will always have 1 useless sp in 3rd Mastery or can i use it?

    • At level 39, Evan should have Level 20 Lightning Bolt and Level 17 Magic Guard

it should not be level 18

my guide also states that one should have Level 20 for 1 skill and Level 17 for 3rd Mastery (Depending on what you choose to pump)

    • Actually, when you use the Magic Guard mastery book, you get 1 free SP in 3rd mastery

  19. is every1 getting their mastery books from the cash shop or from drop?

  20. i love ms i play iot everyvdya I FEEL LIKE DESTROYING ZAKUM

  21. about the maestry books for magic guard for example, will they always be from cash shop or eventually they will be released for normal drops?

  22. Is LUK required for wearing the Reverse set of Dragon Equipment?

  23. dark fog is sexy

  24. Chin Jia Boon

Not sure if anyone has noticed, or if I am repeating what someone else said, but there’s a mistake for your 6th mastery.

6th mastery gets 2 SP from quests, so for the “Conclusion” at the end of the skill build, it should be ” 21 X 3SP + 2SP(From Quests) = 65 SP” which is able to max all skills.

  25. so ive based lvl 30 and never got my glasses or nything can i still get them cause cassandras not offering them an answer would hoghly help me on thioiis

    • the event may have ended

you should go and check the official website to see if the event is still running (if you are playing MSEA, i think the event is not over)

  26. I have a question. Do you really get 5sp on 7th and 8th growth stage when you level up?

  27. ok, thank you. I wasn’t sure if you can max all the skills, anyway do they just get 5sp instead of 3 or you have to do something?

  28. Thank you for useful info. 🙂

  29. @mune0106:

    fixed, thanks for telling me

  30. By the way, I have a question. How did you made that .gif?

  31. Oh my god, this is the most detailed and helpful post I have ever seen. Thank you SO MUCH for this. I will treat this like god for my new character. Thanks again! :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

  32. Hello. Thanks for the guide, it helps alot 🙂 Can i ask you a question? My Evan character has already reached lvl 21, but my dragon soul still not max. but i don’t have anymore skill points to max it. Do you know what exactly went wrong? However, i have already max Magic Missile. thanks.

  33. HEyy , i need help here !
i’ve accidentally skipped the quests that sllows me to obtain extra skill points ! can i do them although i’ve already exceeded the level ?

  34. Thank u so much for this! It will definitely help me a lot on my new Evan xD I’ve been feeling like a newbieee .. u save my acc :p ty :D!

  35. TY so much for the info.
My evans lvl 50 and I was getting worried but you fixed my worries so TY!
    ;D!

  36. how i can use the skill poits with my hero evan ????
int and luck?? like a the battle mage??

    • i suppose u mean ability point…anyways, yes, it is similar to battlemage

it all depends on your fundings and preferences on whether you want to be normal, low luk or pure int

personally, i prefer low luk above anything else

  37. Thanks a milion for your personal challenge plus efforts! These things against your webpage is definitely awesome. Additionally I actually greatly appreciate a person’s tips. In my opinion these are typically essential factors. Anyways bless you. Fine look over.

  38. Hi Conserver, nice guide. Got to ask u a question tho. I have a level 60 evan on MSea. I did not do the mount quest on level 50 which is under New Hero, now i cant seem to get my 60 % dragon glasses scroll. Do i need to do them for my scroll?

  39. MSEA? The success rate of the scrolls are 100% on MSEA…anyways, there is absolutely no link between the mount quest and the eligibility to get the scroll

the reason why you cannot get it is because the event has ended in MSEA…

  40. Oh..Ok. Thanks a lot~

  41. Nice post. I was checking constantly this blog and I’m impressed! Very useful information specially the last part 🙂 I care for such info a lot. I was seeking this particular info for a very long time. Thank you and good luck.

  42. Q : What equipments does Evan wears?

A : Evan is able to wear any equipments that a regular Magician wears. However, do take note that Evan is only able to command his Dragon when wielding a Staff.

Err, my evan is able to equip wand and cast spell and attack…

Btw GREAT post u hav ^^ It provides me wif lots of info

  43. Are you planning to add the changes made by the Chaos patch?

    • yes. I will edit the post by this weekend.

EDIT: Chaos Changes are up. Change log is also added. (Just before the skills info)

EDIT 2: Working on Legend Changes soon. A new post will be up for it.

  44. Is Earthquake the only move that is able to attack monsters behind the dragon?

  45. Its so unfair that Bishops gets Genesis without using a skillbook.. while us have to fight CHAOS zakum to get Dark Fog.

  46. on the 7th mastery skills it adds up to 65 ap, and you only get 60, (lvl 80 to 100) 3 x 20= 60 where do you get the extra 5? (i did all the quest)

  47. EVANNNNNNNNNN

How is this full, where is the most important thing: TRAINING GUIDE

  48. Evans are weak (MY OPINION SO DONT HATE ME D:) but their skills are amazing. Who wouldn’t love dragons now?
atm i have an Evan BUT something was completely wrong with it…
I didn’t have to buy the mastery books in the cash shop anymore. i dont know if it’s a glitch or GMS allows us to have Magic Guard/Magic Booster/Critical Magic at max.
If my account is glitched then… HELL, I DIDNT HAVE TO PAY A CENT! 😀
if GMS did.. then… they got my hopes up about my awesome acc being awesomely glitched. 😉

    xx

    • Evan are continuously being nerfed in terms of damage but are getting faster and faster after each revamp.

The part about you don’t have to get Mastery Book from Cash Shop – I heard that it has been like this in GMS since Ascension (or maybe Chaos/BB?).

Regardless, thanks for your feedback. I will have the changes reflected after I do a revamp to this guide for the Legend & Advance of the Union Patch. I will be removing some stuffs, reorganizing and rewriting majority of the guide to be like the Legend Guide format I last created here.

P.S: Only GMS needs Mastery Books from Cash Shop last time for Evan. Other servers do not require them.

EDIT : Guide Updated! Its now Ver. II!

  49. hey may i know when will the next patch be??? cant wait as i can mount the dragon and then glide on it!!!

  50. I have read several good stuff here. Definitely value bookmarking
for revisiting. I surprise how so much attempt you place to make the sort of excellent informative site.
